From airfield to enterprise
Part of Langar's industrial heritage.
RAF Langar opened in September 1942 and served the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War. Lancaster aircraft were operated from the airfield, while the wider Harby Road site was associated with Avro repair and maintenance work.
After the war, Langar became an important Royal Canadian Air Force supply base supporting NATO operations in Europe. The military use ended in the 1960s, but the area's practical buildings, transport links and skilled industrial tradition continued to attract businesses.
